Spring is a time of year that just seems to scream change. Change from the cold and gray to warm and sunny. Change from slow and sluggish to energy in everything. I also find my body switches from wanting heavy, filling food to a lighter fare. This is also when I start wanting to be outside more so Blaze has been enjoying longer walks. My grandson is already talking about going camping.
Spring cleaning seems to call to many of us this time of year. I find it rather amusing to see this in my youngest son who abruptly decided to re-organize and rearrange his and his girlfriend’s bedroom. I doubt he’d even agree that his behavior had anything to do with having seen me rearrange and clean the house every spring when he was growing up. Several of us are in some form of spring cleaning. His girlfriend, who was raised by her father and obviously wasn’t exposed to spring cleaning. She seems irritated by the rest of us rearranging.
My biggest focus is my grandson’s room. At 10 years old he needs some help. He’s spoken to me about wanting an area to work. He’s a huge lego maker and needs space to build as well as somewhere to display his work. Recently he’s been hugely into drawing and making robots with the legos. So, I bought an L-shaped gaming style desk and hopefully will get it put together this week. I’m on the search for a reasonably priced dresser and a bed appropriate for a boy. His room is a modge podge of pieces people have given them and everything has seen better days.
For myself I’ve re-arranged my sleeping area to give me more privacy. I bought the same L-shaped desk in white that I bought for my grandson in black. I put mine together last week so I’ve had a huge jumble to reorganize and figure out, which was my weekend project. I’ll let it settle for a couple days and see if I feel it’s okay or if it needs to be adjusted. I need to get my son to do a trip to my storage unit so I can move my Christmas decorations back into storage along with some of my winter items like my snowshoes that I still haven’t been able to try out.
I use to be able to spring clean a room in a day but my life just isn’t at that pace any longer and that’s okay. I may need a week to spring clean a room or I might need a month. We all need to give ourselves the grace we need. It’s the process of moving forward (the journey) that’s important, not how much we accomplish in a single day.
